About last night...
Wow what a great show! I almost passed out when I arrived to see the SOLD OUT sign on the door!!! I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Anita Lin, Julianne Salinas and Gus Gusman last night in Barrington, IL. I love playing (ITR) "in the round" format. It's such a great way to perform and share your stories with the audience and other songwriters. Anita, Julianne and I have written together separately but have never played out together. It was the first time I had met Gus and such a blast playing along side him.
We each played 5 songs. I started with "Why did you go", then "St. Vincent DePaul". Into the first few notes I realized my guitar had been knock out of tune some how during the last round. I just kept playing and rolled with the new melody. That was the first time that's ever happened. Probably not the last. Next time I'll spare the audience the "interesting" vocals and stop to retune! Next I did "All that's missing is you", " Wasted"and wrapped up with a new song called "I didn't." Anita did a great job performing "I open that door". We just wrapped that one up a couple of weeks ago. Julianne rocked on "Leavin in a hurry"!
The coolest thing about playing out is the people you meet after the show. I love the stories of how they connected to one of my songs. A song that started off in my head, maybe from an experience of mine or someone else I've met on this journey. Then it ends up touching some random person I've never met before. They end up sharing very intimate details of their life, of how the song touched them. It's very unique to be brought into someone's life that you just met and will probably never meet again - joys and sorrows. It sounds cliché' - but I don't have to play to a sell out stadium crowd or sell a million albums (although both of those would be nice) to define my success as a songwriter. The woman I met after the show last night defined it for me!
Ok - one last thing. I'll be heading to Nashville in 2 weeks for Tin Pan South. I can't wait such a great time of year to go there. I'll be there for the awesome shows, inspiring writers and to check out a couple of studios to record at in June. Also, the new music will be up and running soon. I've really slacked on getting that done!
Now back to the real world - time to play My little Pony and paint some tiny nails! :)
I love being Mommy!
Until next time...PEACE
